Arctic Man 2015
April 6th - 12th, 2015
Paxon Alaska - Fairbanks Area
"GO FAST or GO HOME"
The Arctic Man is a race for teams of two skilled competitors that tests the strength of an athlete and the horsepower of a snowmobile. Courage and training are essential elements of this team of snowmobile and skier. The Arctic Man is one of the World's Toughest Downhill Ski races, and an exciting snowmobile race, all in one. The skier begins at a summit elevation of 5,800 feet and drops 1700 feet in less than two mile to the bottom of a narrow canyon where he meets up with his snowmobiling partner. The snowmobiler meets the skier, on the go, with a tow rope and pulls the skier 2 1/4 miles uphill at top speeds of up to 86 mph. The skier and the snowmobile then separate and the skier goes over the side of the second mountain and drops another 1200 feet to the finish line.
Truly the Ultimate Adrenaline Rush for spectators and competitors alike.
Last year approximately 13,000 spectators came from around the nation as well as different countries around the world to enjoy this spectacular Alaskan event. The area the race is held is some the of the best snowmachine riding country in the world. The snowcapped peaks and beauty make this spring event one that you will treasure for a lifetime.
A Message from the Arctic Man Director
The Arctic Man is a unique event that has grown to be one of the major winter events held within the state of Alaska wilderness. The 2015 Arctic Man is the 30th anniversary, thats thirty years of adrenaline rush and speed.
The main event is scheduled for Friday, April 10th, again we are hoping for good weather. We will use April 11 & 12 as back up dates. The race this year will START at 11 am and should be done by 2:30. The AMMC Hillcross is right after the race which should START about 3:00 p.m.
Communication at the Arctic Man has always been a major challenge throughout the past 30 years. This year the Anchorage Radio Station 94.7 KZND will be on site to operate our Official Arctic Man Radio Station and should be up all weekend with music playing and it will have race updates. The station is 107.5 FM. We are going to try and also give race times during the Arctic Man. Bring your small FM radios and we will try one more time.
A big thank you to AT&T for cell phone service for the past three years and they should be back for 2015.
This event has come a long way in 30 years. We want to thank all of our sponsors, racers, volunteers, and helpers for making the Arctic Man such a great success. But, most of all, we want to thank all the spectators for coming back year after year!
We again have a huge snowfall this year in the mountains. Please, we all want to be careful. Watch for dangerous snow situations, large snow packs, edges, and tight valleys. BE CAREFUL!
We are going to work very hard to make sure that SAFETY and COMMON SENSE are a priority. We have our own security to help you with any problems; please use them if you need them. We have our own medic staff to help with first aid problems; please use them. Alaska State Troopers will also be on site to help; we want to also thank them for their support.
BIG THANK YOU TO MOTORFIST FOR BECOMING OUR OFFICIAL ARCTIC MAN WINTER APPAREL FOR 2015.
Have a Safe & Good Time,
